Sunday March 27, 2011

Sunday March 27. Joan hasn’t been out for about two weeks now since the virus broke out in the nursing home and they put her floor in isolation; but according to Kristal everything is fine now, no more mix –ups and Joan can go out.

I picked Joan up at 10:15 and told her we were in for a long day since we were going to Winchester for breakfast and Kemptville for lunch.

We took the 416 to Hunt Club and headed east to Bank Street/ Hwy 31. We had just pasted Vernon on Hwy 31 and pulled over to call Barry to see if we were close to Winchester and he said we were about 10 minutes away.

We found the Tim Horton’s at the intersection of Hwy 31 and 43. We ordered two teas and a bagel and stayed in the parking lot to eat our snack. When finished we headed into Winchester to take a look around.

We found 4 churches and a very interesting old house and interesting town hall. We even went to see where our brother Barry and his contstruction company Fuller were working . We left Winchester around 12:00 and headed west on Hwy 43 towards Kemptville.

We arrived just on the out skirts of Kemptville around 12:30 and found the new Tim Horton’s in a new construction site. Joan ordered and ham and Swiss cheese and I ordered an egg salad sandwich and we ordered two teas. We went to another site on the construction site and ate our lunch and at around 1:00 we got onto the 416 and headed home.

We got home around 1:30 and Joan was really tired. I put her to bed and left.

Sunday March 20, 2011

Sunday March 20. Joan called and was upset; she said she couldn’t go out today. I called Kristal to see if she knew what was happening and when she called back she said some else on the floor got ill today and so isolation was still in effect. I called Joan and explained this and said that I would bring the Tim Horton’s in.

I went to the Tim Horton’s on Hazeldean and arrived at Joan’s at 11:00. We had our snack in the common area on Joan’s floor and then we went out side on the balcony for a smoke. While there I got Joan to count and she said “23" again. I got Joan to count again, and again she said “23”. Joan counted one more time and again she said “23”. She was so happy and pleased; I believe from now on she’ll be able to remember “23” when she counts.

While out on the balcony tried to see if Joan could use the camera on my phone and after three attempts she got it. I took Joan back to her room and left at 12:00.

Sunday March 6, 2011

Sunday March 6, 2011. Joan phoned around 8:10 this morning and she said “no good” which I took to mean she didn’t think we should go out today since it was still snowing. I told her that was okay and that I would come in today with our Tim Horton’s snack and we could stay in her room.

I stopped at the Tim Horton’s on Hazeldean and got the teas and bagel and got to Joan's about 11:30. We stayed in Joan’s room and had our snack. We did our usual routine of counting, letters and "days of the week". Ever since Joan came from Sarnia to Ottawa and we've had the occasion to be part of her recovery I've tried to help increase her vocabulary by getting Joan to count, recite the alphabet and say the days of the week.

Each time we go out Joan does this while we're driving to the Tim Horton's. In the beginning she counted from 1 to 10, then slowly increased it to 1 to 20 and lately she tries 1 to 25, but each time she attempts 1 to 25 she omits "23" and even if she tries it 3 or 4 times , the same result. However last week while counting she did say 23 and was so pleased with herself. So when Joan was counting this week I was worried that that last week may have been a fluke. But while counting this week Joan said “23” and like last week she stopped when she said it and was so pleased with herself, as was I.

We went down to garage and we had two smokes and then took Joan back to her room and put her to bed.

Sunday February 27, 2011.

Sunday February 27, 2011. I picked Joan up at 11:45 today. We’re going to the Tim Horton’s on Woodroffe Ave.

When we arrived we noticed it was an “On the Run” Tim Horton’s, so we parked and I went inside to see what type of store it was and found out it only had coffee service. I asked the lady if there was another Tim Horton’s close by and she said there was one right behind and when I turned around there was the Tim Horton’s.So we got in the car and drove across the parking lot and parked in the handicap parking and I went in to get our snack since this Tim Horton’s didn’t have a drive through. We left the handicap parking and went to another parking slot and parked so we could have our teas and bagel.

It seems that both the Tim Horton’s and the On the Run store share the same civic address.

Then we left and went to the super store at the corner of Woodroffe Ave. and Baseline Road to see it sold fresh cut flowers. We wanted to get some flowers for our Mildred, who celebrated her 80th birthday on Friday, but all they offered were those bouquets already made up and I wanted separates. So we left and went to the shopping plaza at Greenbank and the Queen’s way, but there was no florist shop so we decided we would have to do it another time.

Then we jumped on the Queen’s way and went to Richmond Road to see if Glenn’s chip wagon was there. And it was and when I went to order our lunch Valentine (the owner of the wagon) said when he saw my car approaching he already started our usual order, two hot dogs and a small French fry. After eating our lunch I took Joan home at 12:45.
