Sunday December 19, 2010

Sunday December 19, 2010. Last Sunday I didn't take Joan out because of all that freezing rain. This Sunday I picked Joan up at around 10:15.

We were headed to the Tim Horton's on Prince of Whales Drive (we have never been to this Tim's). We ordered our usual snack of two teas and a bagel with peanut butter. Today I brought our mugs in with me (since they didn't have a drive through) and we were surprised to see just how much tea we got. Usually when going through a drive through we get our tea in their small cups and then transfer it to our mugs (I think you get more when you buy tea in the cups rather then let them pour it straight into your mug)We stayed in the parking lot to eat our snack before taking off for our drive.

We left and headed towards "Little Italy"; I wanted to show Joan the signs that have been put up in the last year advertising the area. After driving down Preston Street looking at the improvements that have taken place over the past few years we headed to Somerset Street. Taking Gladstone to Bronson we headed north to Somerset where they recently erected an ornate arch advertising "China Town".

We then headed west so we could go to Donna's Express for a sandwich for lunch. After lunch I took Joan home around 12:30.

Tuesday December 7, 2010

Tuesday December 7, 2010. Joan had the annual Christmas party at Garden Terrace on Sunday, so I didn't take her out. Her daughter, Kristal, and her husband, Dale and the three kids would be joining her along with Joan's husband Donald.

(Mason, Joshua, Joan and Avery)

So today we're going to a Tim Horton's close by. I picked Joan up at around 10:30 and we headed for the Tim Horton's on Terry Fox Drive. It was an "On the Run" but it had a drive through. We ordered two teas and bagel with peanut butter. Christine was our server.

We then drove down Terry Fox looking for a place to stop and have our snack. As we were driving we noticed a residential area with rather large homes so we looked for the entrance and looked for a spot. We couldn't find the homes we saw from Terry Fox so we stopped at an intersection and ate our morning snack.

After we finished our snack we drove around the area looking for the exit. I remember some of the names of the street and thought we were headed in the right direction when all of sudden I noticed the roof top of a small strip mall and realised that just fifteen minutes ago Joan and I were just behind that strip mall having our snack; we were driving in circles. We pulled in and asked for directions.

We finally got out of the residential area and headed for the Scotia Bank Place ans when we got there we asked if there was a Tim Horton's inside (according to my list there is) , but the lady we spoke to said "No".

So we pulled over to the side of the road and I phoned Colonnade Restaurant and ordered us a pizza. Before going to pick up the pizza we made a d=turn and went up Edgewater Ave. to take of that Tim Horton's which is an "On the Run" but it doesn't have a drive through so we'll probably not visit it. We got to the Colonnade and I went to get the pizza and we stayed in the parking lot and then I took Joan home around 12:15. She was tired.

Sunday November 28, 2010

Sunday November 28, 2010. Running late today (was shopping in Ogdensburg yesterday and a little tired today) so I picked Joan up around 10:30. Joan was in a playful mood today and after getting her in the car and putting her chair away, she had locked the car door on me. We have a running joke ; the only thing I ask of Joan when we're out, is that she locks the car doors every time I get back in from whatever it was I was doing that took me out of the car. So when I got back to the car and tried to get in the door was locked, so I un-locked and when I got in Joan was laughing.

We headed to the Ottawa Civic Hospital. We're going to the Tim Horton's in the Heart Institute. We ordered our usual two teas and a bagel, and we stayed in the area to eat our snack.

Then we drove around the neighbourhood just looking a the homes in the area. Later we ended up in the Island Park area and just took a slow drive around to look at the homes in the area.

Around 12:00 we headed to Donna's Express restaurant to order some lunch. When we finished our bacon and fried egg sandwich we headed home, but today we go off the Queensway at Eagleson Side Road and took the long way home.

Saturday November 20, 2010

Saturday November 20, 2010. On Tuesday November 16, 2010 after I dropped off at Garden Terrace I went to Adam's moving on Scott Street and bought the dresser I saw on Monday.

Barry and I met at Adam's moving
at 8:45 this morning and we put the dresser on Barry's truck and then went to Joan's to exchange it with the old one she already had. In stead of throwing the old dresser out in re-cycle the staff suggested we give it to another resident, which we did. Joan was very excited and pleased to get the new dresser.

When I had finished putting Joan's clothes into the new dresser we left and headed for the Tim Horton's on Merivale Road. We order our usual tea and a bagel and then just stayed in the parking lot and ate our snack.

After we finished our snack we went down Clyde Ave. and stopped at Bonnie Street. I wanted to get a picture of the sign posts at this intersection just like we did when we went to Arnprior this summer and we came across the intersection "Victoria/Albert"

We drove around Westboro looking at all the new construction in the area and then went to Donna's Express for lunch. After lunch (around 12:30) I took Joan home.

Tuesday November 16, 2010

Tuesday November 16, 2010. Since I didn’t see Joan on Sunday I'm going to take her out today. I picked Joan up around 10.00 and we headed to the Tim Horton’s in the St. Laurent shopping mall.

The Tim Horton’s was on the third floor and once there I ordered our usual snack, two teas and a bagel. On my way back to the car I stopped into a store called “Ernest” and bought a scarf.

We left the parking lot and went down Coventry Road and parked on the shoulder and ate our snack. We right across the street from elections Canada.

Then we got on the Queensway and headed west. We got off on Carling Ave. and headed to Westgate so I could go into the DMV and get an application for a disabled parking sticker. According to Vanessa (who work s in the office at Garden Terrace) we need an application for Joan and the office will fill it out and the doctor will sign it and Joan gets the sticker but I use it when she’s in the car with me. This way we can use the disable parking when I need to leave the car and Joan won’t be too far from where I'm going.

Then we went to Glenn’s chip wagon for lunch and got hot dogs and fries. We go there often and this time I asked the owner what his name was and he said “it’s Valentine, like the holiday”.

(Valentine, owner of Glenn's Chip Wagon on Richmond Road)

T hen I took Joan home. Just as we were entering the building I realised that I had locked my keys in the car. Well I first put Joan to bed and then went to Vanessa’s office and we called the Canadian Tire auto service (since my phone was also locked in the car) and they said then would send Glenn’s Towing and it would be about forty-five minutes. Well then I thought "now what will I do", I have to wait 45 minutes and my smokes were in the car as well.

As I said this out loud, Sam from the next office came over and gave me two smokes and her lighter.

F ortunately I only had to wait about 30 minutes and it took the mechanic about another 10 minutes to unlock the car. I went back in the build to return the lighter to Sam and drop off the DMV application with Vanessa and say “thank you” to both ladies.

Sunday November 7, 2010

Sunday November 7, 2010. We're not going Tim Horton's today, Barry's birthday was on October 23 but since he was in Montreal for a wedding we're go to to celebrate today.

I picked Joan up at 11:00 and we headed to Aylmer; we're going to have Chinese food for lunch. We arrived around 11:30 ans Joyce, Lorna and Sharon were already there. Joyce help me get the chair out if the car and I showed her how to put it together. Marian arrived and when Barry arrived we went for a short walk around the neighbourhood to check out the latest house construction.

There's a new home be constructed right across the street from Sharon's place. It will be strange seeing a house there; it's be the family home since 1958 and that lot has always been empty. We ordered the food around 12:00 and then Barry and I we uptown to get it. We ate and then sat around the table just shooting the breeze.

Joan and I left around 2:30 and I took her home.

Sunday October 31, 2010

Sunday October 31, 2010. Lorna phoned and said she had Joan’s winter coat so I stopped by and picked it up before going to pick Joan up at around 10:30.

According to our Tim Horton’s log there are a few places on Merivale Road that we haven’t got pictures so were going to Merivale Road today. We passed the Tim Horton’s near Emerald Mall and then the two "On the Runs" (which I don’t think have drive throughs). I’m going to phone some of these places and see if they do.

We went to the Tim Horton’s on Merivale Road near Hunt Club. We ordered our tea and bagel and then went to a parking area off of Colonnade Road and ate our snack. Then we went to take a look and the new house Anna bought on Woodward ave.

Then we got on the queens way and went to the Colonnade restaurant in Kanata to have a pizza. I phone ahead and when we got there the pizza was ready. Then we went home around 1:00.

Sunday October 24, 2010

Still not feeling 100% so I’m going to bring the Tim Horton’s in to Joan. Go there just after10.00 and Joan and I sat in the common area to have our snack. Joan tried to tell me something that she kept saying as “awful” and after playing 20 questions figured out she was talking about Lorna having a terrible cold. We went to the garage and had 2 smokes and then I put Joan to bed. Came home and phoned Lorna and she did sound awful.

Sunday October 17, 2010

Sunday October 17. Still not feeling well but I’m still going to see Joan; just not take her out. Stopped at the Tim Horton’s on Eaglesonside Road and got tea and bagel and was at Joan’s by 11:00.

We sat in the common area and had our tea and then went out and sat out front and had 2 smokes. Tried to get this man take our picture but it didn’t work out.

Sunday October 11, 2009 - Thanksgiving

Sunday October 11, 2009. Thanksgiving. The family is going to Joyce’s for thanksgiving (we've been going there now for the past twenty-five years). I made my usual ham and this year because Lorna’s not going to be there I made her cheese cake.

I left just after 10:00 and went up the Quebec side. Arrived around 11:.15. Dale and the 3 kids Joshua, Avery and Mason were already there. Joyce and Sharon were already there too. Then Joan and Kristal arrived. Brian and Chrissie arrived next with Brooke. Then Frank and Donna arrived with Darren and Mackayla. Then Chelsea and Chris and then Barry and Marian.

This year Joyce got a turkey from Geordie’s brother (we haven’t had a turkey in years). We ate around 1:30 and since Kristal and Dale and the kids were heading to Aylmer for dinner with Mrs. Craig (Joan's mother-in-law) I said I would take Joan back to the nursing home and we left around 3:30.

Sunday October 3, 2010

Sunday October 3, 2010. I got up around 8.45 today. I picked Joan up just 10.00 this morning. We’re going to go to the Tim Horton’s in the Carlingwood mall.

Before stopping in at the carlingwood Tim Horton’s we stopped at another Tim Horton’s, which is an “On The Run” and took a picture of it. We decided that we would only do the Tim Horton’s/On the Run’s that were drive through, since most on the runs are not fully serviced and we can’t get bagels.

We got there around 10.45 and I went in and ordered our tea and bagel. We then drove along the parkway and stopped at the Kitchissippi lookout and ate our snack.

We then went to my apartment and went and got my laptop so we could look at the pictures Kristal and Jodi posted on their face book pages from their recent trip to Disney world in Florida

Sunday September 26, 2010

Sunday September 26. I picked Joan up around 10:00 today, and when I got there she was already in the lobby.

We were going to go to the Tim Horton’s at 2100 Hunt Club Rd. but as we approached Bank Street and Hunt Club Rd. I realised we were probably going to one that we already had been to but we just didn’t have a picture. So I decide to switch location and we went to the Tim Horton's on Bank Street which was an "On the Run". We ordered our tea and bagel and sat in the parking lot.

We drove around and then we went to Donna’s express for bacon sandwiches and then I took Joan home around 1.00.

Sunday August 29, 2010

Sunday August 29, 2010. It's a beautiful day today so I think Joan and I should take a nice long drive. I picked Joan up around 10:30 this morning and suggested we go to Arnprior. (Prior to picking Joan up I google Tim Horton's +Arnprior and found out there were 2 and I phoned and both were opened)

We took the 417 and arrived just shortly after 11:15 and found the first Tim Horton's and we ordered two teas and a bagel. We went down the road looking for a shady spot and found one just in front of some farm.

(St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church)

After finishing our tea and bagel we starting driving around town to see what Arnprior had to offer. Since both Joan I like churches we started looking for them. The first church was a Presbyterian.

(The Angelican Church of Canada - Emmanuelle Church)

Next was an angelican church.

(Grace St. Andrew's United Church)

Then a united church.

We continued to drive around looking for the the catholic church (surely they had one). Meanwhile we took in some of the other old buildings in town. We went down to the marina to view the river and bridge.

We found the downtown area.

We finally found the catholic church on the highest hill in the town (of course).

(St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church)

It was getting close to lunch time so we started looking for the other Tim Horton's and as we were doing that we ran across an intersection of the streets Victoria and ALbert. (I find it interesting when you found intersection with names that have some reference to famous people, for example Ottawa has and intersection named Bonnie and Clyde)

We found the other Tim Horton's and we oredered and ice tea and Joan had a ham and swiss cheese sandwich and I had an egg salad. We spoke with the clerk Tamara about being from Ottawa and how we visit all the Tim Horotn's in the Ottawa and surrounding area.

It was a long day so we headed home and arrived around 2:30.

Sunday August 22, 2010

Sunday August 22, 2010. Joan was out on Friday August 20 at her daughter's place,(Kristal) and didn't return until Saturday. Jodi and her husband Jeff and the two kids, Shayla and Nathan were in town for the weekend. So I phoned Joan first to see if we were going out to Tim Horton's or was I bringing it in (Joan sometimes gets very tired when she's been out). Well she was in a great mood and was eager to go out.

I arrived around 10:30 just in time to see Jodi and Jeff and the kids and catch up with them about thing in their lives. They left and Joan and I got in the car ready to go to Tim Horton's.

We got on the 417 and exited at March Road and found the Tim Horten's and we ordered two tea and a bagel; however when I got the receipt I realized we'd gone to the wrong Tim's. We were looking for the one on March Road and ended up at the one on Carling (which we'd already been to and we already have our picture). So we parked in a parking lot next door and had our tea and bagel.

When finished we left looking for the Tim Horton's at 600 Carling Avenue. Well we found it and to our disappointment it was in an office building, and it's not opened on the weekend. So we drove down March Road and stopped at the other Tim Horton's (which is an On the Run) which we'd been to but never got a picture.

Well we drove in and then out and stopped just long enough to take an picture. Then we drove to my friend Joanne's on Eagleson and stayed for a smoke and a short chat. Joanne said we should go to the USA to shop and I said yes but I need to get my new passport first. We left Joanne's and and headed for the Colonnade Restaurant on Hazeldean to get a pizza for lunch.

We finished our pizza (which we ate in the parking lot) and then I took Joan home.
