Sunday January 30, 2011

Sunday January 30. When I got up this morning it was snowing and wasn’t sure if I should just go in and visit with Joan or take her out. While driving on the Queen’s way the snow stopped so I decided we would go out today.

I picked Joan up at around 10:30 and we headed to the Tim Horton’s on Bronson Ave. This is the first Tim Horton’s we’ve come across that was associated with a Quickie store. It didn’t have a drive through so I went in to get our teas and bagel. We stayed in the parking lot next to the store which was next to a Drummond’s gas bar.

After our snack we went for a drive through the neighbourhood. We went down one street and came across a road hockey game. As we were approaching the game I rolled down the window and yelled out “Car” and we laughed as the kids gathered their nets and moved to the side of the street to allow us to pass. I’d guess the kids were around 7 to 9 years of age. Then we headed south on Bank Street till we reached the Driveway and drove along to Dow’s Lake to watch the skaters.

Then we headed through Little Italy till Scott Street and headed to Donna’s Express restaurant to split a bacon and egg sandwich. Drove Joan home around 12:30.

January 23, 2011

January 23, 2011. According to the weather channel it was -32c today; too cold to take Joan out so I decided I would just go in for a visit today.

I picked up our tea and bagel at the Tim Horton’s on Eagleson Side Road. Arrived at 11:00 and we ate our snack in her room.

We went to the garage to have a smoke but it was too cold and only had ½ a cigarette and went back to her room. Joan was real tired so I put her to bed and then left. Before leaving went to see Rebecca and let her know the handicapped parking permit arrived and thanked her for her assistance.

Sunday January 16, 2011

I picked Joan up at 10:30 this morning. We headed over to the Quebec side via the Champlain Bridge and found the Tim Horton’s in the Plateau shopping plaza on boul. St-Raymond.

We ordered our usual, two teas and bagel with peanut butter. We drove to the next parking lot to eat our snack but as I was getting things ready I noticed that they gave us plain butter instead of peanut butter; so we back.. Since we weren’t going through the drive through again I parked in the handicapped parking and went in to exchange the butters. I parked in the handicapped zone because as of Thursday last week we now have a sticker. We ordered the sticker so that if I have to exit the car for any reason to enter a building this way Joan will still be able to see me and I can see her. Not only is Joan paralysed she also suffers from aphasia (a disorder that limits her ability to communicate) so if I have to leave the car I still want her in my eyesight.

So we got the peanut butter and went back to the other parking lot to eat our snack. Joan was so funny this morning because after everything was said and done to get ready to eat Joan turned to me and said “finally” and we both laughed. Joan is always searching for her words and sometimes she manages to find the appropriate word to explain a situation and it can be very comical.

We left the plaza and we thought we were headed to Aylmer but it’s been awhile since I’d been at that plaza and didn’t know they’ve changed the on-ramps to the HWY 148 and so we were headed east when we wanted to go west. So we had to drive a few kilometers before we came to a traffic circle where we could turn around and head to Aylmer and see Barry and Marian.

We stayed for about 25 minutes and then headed to Wychwood to see Sharon. We chatted with Sharon for about 15 minutes and then back to Ottawa and we stopped at Donna’s Express to split a bacon and egg sandwich. I took Joan home at 1:30.

Sunday January 9, 2011

Sunday January 9, 2011. I picked Joan up at 10:15 today; we’re going to hull to find a Tim Horton’s. according to my list there’s suppose to be one on De la Carriere but we drove up and down the street and couldn’t find it.

Stopped into the Canadian tire and spoke with some one who said there’s none on this street but there is one on boul. St-Joseph. We found the Tim Horton’s and ordered our usual tea and a bagel, since they didn’t have a drive through I had to go in. We stayed in the parking lot to eat our snack.

(Anick our server)

We then went to Tunney’s pasture so could I go to the bank and get money to pay for the cigarettes. We went to pick up the smokes and then we went to Glenn’s chip wagon for hot dogs and fries.

I took Joan home around 12:30.

Sunday January 2, 2011

Sunday January 2, 2011. I picked Joan up at 10:15 today. We're going downtown to the Tim Horton's on Metcalfe Street.

We got there at around 11:15 but it took us awhile to find the place. We drove down Slater Street (which was the side street that clerk said was the closet when I phoned earlier) but when we hit Metcalfe I didn't see any Tim Horton's so we drove up Metcalfe to Queen Street and over to O'Conner and down to Laurier Ave. and again over to Metcalfe and it was then while driving up Metcalfe did I notice the Tim Horton's at the corner. Joan and I had good laugh about that (we seem to have trouble some time finding our destination).

We stayed on Metcalfe Street to have our teas and bagel. After our snack we headed to the Esso gas station at the corner of Richmond Road and Island Park Drive. I wanted to use the Esso gift card that Joan gave me for Christmas when we were together and say "Thank you". This is the gas station I use all the time (this way they get to know me and my car and I get to know the service guys). Today we were serviced by Jordon C.

We were thinking of going to Glenn's Chip Wagon to have hot dogs and fries for lunch but the wagon wasn't there so we went to Donna's Express to split a bacon and egg sandwich. Joan and I were home by 12:30.

Thursday December 28, 2010

Thursday December 28, 2010. Each year shortly after Christmas we (my brother and sisters) get together for what we refer to as a siblings day since we are not all together for Christmas. We also try every year to have our as close as possible to December 28th since this is our sister Lorna's birthday (and we try every year to celebrate our respective birthdays together).

This Lorna and her husband Paul went to Toronto on Boxing Day to be with their grandchildren and also to celebrate the one year birthday of their grandson who was born last year on December 29th. Lorna planned on returning December 28th, so we planned to have the siblings day then and at the same time surprise Lorna with a birthday dinner.

Sharon got the house keys from Paul before they left and on Thursday Joyce came down from Shawville and her and Sharon went to to Paul and Lorna and got things ready. Barry was working that day so he and his wife Marian would be there after work. I left around 2:00 to go and pick up a vegetable platter and some flowers and arrived at Joan's place around 3:00.

We arrived at Lorna's just after 3.30 but Lorna and Paul had just arrived from Toronto a few minutes before us but it still was a surprise for Lorna because she didn't think we were bringing Joan since this dinner was taking place in the evening.

We sat around and had drinks and talked and then Lorna opened her gifts and around 5:45 we sat down to a dinner of lasagna and ceaser salad with chocolate cake for desert. Joan was getting tire and at 6:30 we left and I put Joan to bed at 7:00.
